On the 1st and 3rd Saturday we run a ladies only road ride.
Leaving Giant Sunshine Coast at 6am in summer and 6.30am in winter, we head out for a 90 minute ride before returning to a local coffee shop for a well earned coffee.
The ride is supported by our female Liv Ambassadors, who are all about getting more women on to bikes. They love nothing more than to give advice and encouragement, and are a great source of information. We have a vibrant mix of ladies who compete in on and off road triathlons, competitively cycle, or just cycle for fun.
This ride is no-drop, and is about ladies riding together, not racing.
Social Ride Dates:
1st and 3rd Saturday @ 6.00am (June-September it changes to 6.30am).
FAQ:
What type of bike do I need?
You must ride a road bike (i.e. with dropped handle bars) and it be in safe working condition.
How far do you ride?
We normally ride just under 40 kms in 1 1/2 hours. We return to the Pallet Espresso Coffee Bar, which is a few minutes from the shop on Brisbane Road.
How fast do you ride?
We normally average about 25 kms/h over the entire ride. This ride is more about learning group riding skills, than riding fast.
Do I need to let you know I am coming?
No, just turn up 10 minutes before the start time of your first ride, so you can complete a waiver.
How will I know if the ride is cancelled?
We do not ride if it is raining. If you use Facebook, please click here to follow our shop page for updates and click here to join our Facebook group.
Is there a cost involved?
No, this ride is completely free. We are pleased to be able to help support female cycling on the Sunshine Coast, and in return our riders choose to use our store for all their bike needs.
I am worried I will slow the other riders down.
This is by far the most common concern we hear. As long as you can ride on your own and average 23 kms/h for an hour, then this ride will be fine for you. Please remember that every single lady that rides in our group, has started the same way. The riders that come with us, do so because they want to ride in a supportive, female only environment, not because they want a hard, fast ride.
I am very new to road riding, can I still come?
Those new to road riding are very welcome to join us, all we ask is that you are confident in riding your bike, including unclipping from your pedals (if you have this set up). You don’t need to be confident in a group, as we will teach you this.
I have not been on my bike for a while, can I still come?
Assuming you have the fitness to ride the distance, you are very welcome. If your bike has been unused for a while, we would suggest booking it into our workshop for a service prior to riding with us. Our mechanics can check the bike is in safe working order and that your tyres/tubes are holding air sufficiently.
My bike is new to me, but I find it uncomfortable to ride.
We often have riders join us who have purchased second-hand bikes, just to see if they like road riding. The ladies in the group know how much fun this type of riding is, and are sure to get you addicted like they are! We would recommend riders to seriously consider contacting us about a bike fit if you are uncomfortable. There are many areas to consider when making a bike comfortable for the rider, including a comprehensive bike fit, saddle selection, clothing and overall fitness/core strength. Our friendly team are extremely experienced in guiding new riders as they start their journey in road cycling.
Please contact the store if you require bike servicing or bike fitting information.
Please contact Louise at the store if you have further questions about the ride.
